Bernard Kleiman Lecture: Whitewashing Andrew Carnegie
Dr. Sarah Papazoglakis discusses the impetus behind this world-renowned philanthropist’s support of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Museums as a way to whitewash his reputation, holding these institutions out as places where the workingman can improve himself—the irony being, of course, Carnegie’s own legacy with keeping the workingman from having leisure time to use these very institutions.
The discussion will include current employees at both of these institutions who recently voted to become USW members.
